Swingin ''S'' Ranch - April Showers Bring Green Pastures
April Showers Bring Green Pastures

March 31, 2012

As the correct saying goes…April showers bring May flowers, but for the Swingin S Ranch the much needed moisture not only brings flowers, but also green pastures. Every year we have renewed appreciation of how everything has “greened up” as we drive down the road, ride through the pasture or simply look out the window at the livestock grazing on the various hillsides.

With winter behind us, anticipation of the spring and summer months ahead can be viewed as an optimistic endeavor. No more trudging through the snow and the winter elements. Instead, with rubber boots in tow, Carl knows he can expect the initial onslaught of slogging through the mud, cleaning out stable paddocks and other routine jobs. But soon these jobs will give way to fencing, kidding season and as this morning exhibited the beginning of horse training as Carl’s first training horse arrived today.

Yes. For most people April showers do bring May flowers, but for the Swingin S Ranch, it also means green pastures and the prelude to a beautiful summer.

FIRST CLIENT FOR RANCH-BASED CATTLE WORK EXPERIENCE
Kristen wanted to introduce her young mare to cattle in a low pressure environment. Not wanting to overwhelm her mare and wanting to ensure a positive experience, she chose our ranch to introduce her horse to cattle through basic ranch work and riding.

She had full use of the branding and shipping pens, miles of pasture and Corriente cattle. Carl was able to assist Kristen in introducing her horse to cattle for the first time and establishing a positive outcome for both horse and rider.

"I really enjoyed my stay, it was rustic and a huge relief from everyday life. It was a great bonding experience for me and my horse as we negotiated terrain and objects never before seen...I would definitely come again. Thank you." ~Kristen S., Pine River, Wisconsin

Welcome to the Swingin “S” Ranch, a third generation farm owned and managed by Carl and Lori Sudbrink. The Swingin “S” Ranch is situated on 350 acres in West Central Wisconsin within the quiet surroundings of rural living that were introduced to us in our youth.

A real working cattle ranch, our customers have the benefit of over 25 years of professional experience with horses and cattle and knowing how to raise, breed and handle them. The horses and cattle of our farm are considered an integral part of our ranching operation and are used on a daily basis to give our customers a complete ranching experience.

Our goal is to make wise use of the land in order to enable us to provide quality goods and services to our customers while allowing each facet of our ranch to expand and compliment the other. Building upon this goal enables us to provide livestock owners with quality sport cattle and pasture-grazed beef; hunters with 350 acres of land to hunt on; and today’s horse person with horse training, trail rides and farrier service.

For whatever reason you choose our working ranch for your destination, we invite you to come visit and rekindle memories from your youth; work with your horse; hunt for whitetail deer, turkey or bear; or select quality Corriente cattle, boer goats or grass fed beef for purchase.

Our philosophy is one of a non-traditional approach to agriculture bordering on agritourism. We consider ourselves stewards of this land and the animals that reside here. We invite you to visit our ranch and leave a legacy for your future generations.
